How does laser hair removal work?

Each treatment uses selected wavelengths of low energy light rapidly pulsed onto the skin to gently heat the hair follicles to cause terminal damage and prevent hair regrowth.

Does Laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal is gentle and comfortable to your skin. During treatment you may experience a gentle warming of the skin, however the cooling applicator is capable of 4c which ensures complete comfort even in the most sensitive areas.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a minimum of 6 treatments, with some hair types requiring more. The average for a successful program is 8 treatments. It is so important to complete all treatments for optimum results.

How long does a treatment take?

The treatment is quick but length of time will depend on treatment areas. The treatment applicator is swept back and forth across the designated area in a quick motion allowing the low light energy pulse into the skin.

What will I see after treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by the heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1 to 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to grow as they are pushed out by the new epidermis

Who is suitable for laser treatment?

All skin types can be treated! The SMARTDiode laser is successful in treating both dark and fair skin types and for both male and females. Fair hair however contains less melanin so is harder to treat. Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.

Is laser hair removal safe?

Endorsed by leading medical experts the SMARTDiode laser is safe and highly effective in the treatment of permanent hair reduction.

How old do I have to be to have laser hair removal?

18 years or older, as under 18 your body is undergoing lots of hormonal changes and may mean that the treatment will be ineffective as the body hair may grow back.

Can I start my laser treatment on the same day as my consultation?

Unfortunately you will need to wait 48 hours after your consultation before your first treatment. This is because during your consultation we perform a test patch on the desired treatment area which will need time to develop to ensure we are using the correct settings to give you the best results.

I have had laser treatments before with another company. Do I still need a consultation?

Yes, you will still need to have a consultation with us. As we are committed to your safety, our routine procedures ensure that we always undergo a patch test with every new client, regardless of previous treatments.

Can I bring a friend with me to the consultation?

Yes of course, but they will need to leave the room when we carry out the patch test as the equipment used may cause damage to unprotected eyes.

Are consultations free?

Consultations of Laser Hair Removal and Skin Treatments are completely free! We do however charge £25 for the patch test which is redeemable at your first Laser / IPL session.

Unfortunately, due to appointment demand, if you fail to give us 24hours’ notice or do not attend your consultation the £25 cost will be charged.

You may have noticed a large number of clinics offering treatments and though laser is not a difficult treatment to offer it is still important to make sure you go to an experienced qualified therapist to make sure you receive a safe treatment and one that gets you the results you want.

Qualified & Experienced

It is so important to choose a practitioner that is qualified and experienced and hasn’t just been on a one day course. Katie has over 30 years experience in the beauty industry, she qualified as a level 4 laser therapist in 2015 and has treated 100’s of clients since.

Ongoing Training

Katie regularly updates her training with Lynton Lasers to improve on the knowledge and understanding of laser and light therapy and is known to be a bit of a laser geek!

Insurance

The clinic is fully insured, laser is not a standard beauty treatment so not all insurers cover it. Most will only accept practitioners that are fully qualified. It’s so important to choose a clinic that has the correct insurance to protect you.

Reviews

We are really proud to have nearly 200 5-star reviews on google and facebook. Take a peak, it’s always a good idea to see what other clients experiences have been like first.

Equipment

We only have the best up to date equipment, you get what you pay for and we get fantastic results!! We use a medical grade triple wavelength Diode for hair removal that is super fast and virtually pain FREE! We also use an award winning medical grade Lynton IPL for skin rejuvenation used by the NHS.

Friendly

If visiting for the first time you can expect to be warmly welcomed and made to feel instantly at ease by Katie. She will aim to make your visit as comfortable as possible and calm any nerves you may have.

Consultations

If you decide to take the first step and book a consultation, our goal is to leave you better informed with a thorough understanding about the treatment options available, along with realistic expectations about the results you want to achieve.

Parking

It’s easy to park, there is private off street parking right outside on a quiet road.

Home Clinic

Not everyone likes going into a beauty salon, we understand that! The advantage of a home clinic is you will always have a 1:1 treatment with the same person, it’s private & so very quiet, no one will be listening in on your conversation! The clinic is spotlessly clean and you will be made to feel relaxed and at ease.

So now you have had your laser treatment (wasn’t so bad was it!) you will need to read the after care advice here or on the leaflet you were given at your consultation.

After the treatment

• In the unlikely event you experience any redness or swelling after your treatment, apply a soothing lotion such as aloe vera or a cool pack at home if required.

 • We advise that you do not shave or apply deodorants /perfumes to the treated area for 24/48 hours post treatment.

• We advise that you avoid very hot baths, saunas, hot tubs/jacuzzi, massage treatments or athletic activities for 2-3 days after treatment.

• Your skin may have increased sensitivity to the sun and we recommend that you use a factor 30+ sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure on the treated area and sunbeds for at least 4 days after your treatment.

• If you experience (rarely) itching in the treated area, avoid scratching the skin. You can take an antihistamine e.g. Piriton to alleviate the irritation.

• We advise not using any skincare that contains AHA, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid or Retinoic Acid (e.g. Retin A) for 3-5 days following treatment.

• We recommend that you always maintain a good skincare routine with frequent hydration or moisturisation on a daily basis.

If you have any concerns or seek further advice please contact the clinic, Katie will be more than happy to help.

Katie will go through everything with you at your consultation but you may have some burning questions of your own!

Firstly why do you need a consultation for hair removal?

The consultation allows us to best assess your needs and to make sure that you are suitable to have laser hair removal treatments. For you, it’s a chance to see the clinic, meet Katie and ask any questions before making any final decision.

It is always better to prepare and even have a list of questions written down in advance. It’s totally ok to pull out a crumpled piece of paper with your questions on or to have them on your mobile.

It will avoid the all too common situation after your consultation, when you are about to reach home, you put your key in the door and that question you forgot to ask magically pops into your brain. We’ve all been there!

So here’s a few questions you might like to ask.

  1. Suitability for treatment
  2. Price & special offers
  3. How do you pay
  4. Technology used
  5. Cancellation policy
  6. Side effects
  7. Before and after care
  8. Realistic expectations
  9. Having a tan

See you at your informal consultation soon

It’s thought that polycystic ovary syndrome affects around 1 in 5 women in the UK with many women having to live with excess facial or body hair. I see clients every day with PCOS and so I understand the difficulties and upset it can cause.

Understanding PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has three main ‘features’:

Laser hair removal for PCOS

Laser hair removal for PCOS is an extremely liberating treatment for lots of women seeking to permanently reduce the amount of masculine body and facial hair.

Areas such as the face, neck, chest, and stomach are common treatment areas. Laser hair removal works well on thick, dark hair on the face or body.

Each treatment uses selected wavelengths of low energy light rapidly pulsed onto the skin to gently heat the hair follicles to cause terminal damage and prevent hair regrowth. It’s quick and virtually painless.

Most clients see a difference from the very first treatment, a full course of at least 6 treatments is recommended in order to see long-term change.

After your initial course of treatments most people require top up sessions to keep on top of the hair growth.

However, laser hair removal isn’t permanent and people with hormonal disorders normally require more regular top ups to keep the hair at bay. This is different for everybody but laser hair removal will definitely reduce the number of trips to the beauty salon.

We will assess your individual needs at your initial consultation so that we may devise a personalised treatment plan for you.

First time for laser hair removal and not sure how to prepare? That’s totally fine!

Katie will explain everything at your consultation and will give you a leaflet to take away with you. Here’s a few tips…

Before The Treatment

• The area to be treated must be clean and free from all topical solutions. Please shave the area 2-12 hours prior to treatment. Shaving immediately prior to treatment may cause extra sensitivity to the skin and we advise to allow plenty of time prior to appointment.

• Tanned skin can be treated provided the tan is not active. Therefore, avoid direct sun exposure to the area being treated for at least 3 days prior to treatment. Sensitive or sunburned skin will not be treated.

• Start gently exfoliating your skin 3-4 days before your session

• The use of tanning creams must be discontinued 2 weeks before treatment.

• You must avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 4 weeks prior to treatment and do not wax, epilate or pluck or remove hair by any other means than shaving during the course of the treatment.

• You must avoid the use of essential oils for 48 hours prior to treatment.

• Do not use depilatory creams 1 week prior to treatment.

• If you have a history of cold sores you may take your usual medication 5 days before and 5 days after treatment.

• If you have been on antibiotics, we ask that you leave 2 weeks between finishing the course and having treatment.

• Try to schedule the treatment the week before of the week after your period

Most importantly, relax, you’re in safe hands.

Hope that helps!

So, you’ve decided that laser hair removal is the best way to be hair-free. Congratulations! Great decision!

Now, I’m telling you that you HAVE to have a consultation and a patch test first! What’s all that about?

Firstly, it doesn’t mean you should be worried. You will be in the hands of an experienced, fully-trained practitioner so laser hair removal treatment is really safe.

Why do you need a laser hair removal consultation?

  1. It’s about making sure that we understand your skin type, how your skin reacts to the sun, and any medication you use, or health issues you have, so that we can create a safe treatment plan just for you and get the best results possible.
  1. A consultation and patch test is an industry-recommended safety check – and we’re all about ensuring that we offer the best and safest experience for all our customers.
  1. It gives you the chance to ask questions, to experience how laser treatment feels and be sure that you are totally comfortable with the whole process. That means that when you do come in for your sessions, it will be super-quick, no fuss and you’ll be getting on with the rest of your day in no time at all.

What will happen when you come for your laser or IPL consultation?

  1. Firstly, if you’ve never visited us before it’s a chance to see the clinic and meet Katie.. It’s so easy to park right outside on the drive.
  1. At your consultation we will be listening carefully to you about what you want to achieve, and how you currently remove unwanted hair. We’ll explain all about the laser technology and a few simple do’s and don’ts that will make your future treatments as effective as possible. Ask us any questions about laser hair removal treatments. We just love talking about it!
  1. We will check your natural colour of your hair and skin, which will have an impact on the laser hair removal treatment plan that we design just for you. Laser energy targets the colour (or pigment) in your hair, so we have to programme the machine settings to get the best results for different skin and hair types.
  2. We will give you a consultation form to complete. Everything you tell us is completely confidential – We need to know about your medical history and any medications you are taking. There are a handful of health conditions which might mean it’s not the right time for you to have laser hair removal. Safety is always our prime concern, but we also want to make sure that you get the very best results in the quickest time. If there is a reason why laser hair removal won’t work very well, we’ll be honest and tell you. If you visit a laser hair removal salon or clinic that DOESN’T ask you these important health questions, they are NOT doing their job properly and we’d advise you to walk out the door.
  1. Then finally with a patch test, Katie will shave a small area of skin on the area that you want to treat and then use the laser on it. In the unlikely event that your skin does react, any problems will be minimal because only a small area of skin has been treated. A patch test is also a way for the technician to check if the laser settings need adjusting for future appointments to get the very best results for you.

So, you’ve sailed through the one-to-one laser hair removal consultation and now you can look forward to the treatments that are going to take away the stress and hard work of staying hair-free. We think it’s well worth spending that time to make sure that laser hair removal is right for you, right now, and to help you get the best results.
